Thoughts on Church

 

God's Church is spiritual as defined by our Leader in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 583:12-13.  God sees His spiritual Church as perfect, alive, and active. His Church is safe, triumphant, and eternal. Branch churches and societies progress by accepting the concept of God's perfect Church in our own thought. Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you.”  (Luke 17:21)

 

In asking, "What is God’s Church like and how is it doing?" the answer is – God’s Church is just like God – all spiritual and completely perfect.  We can know together that there is only one Mind in Church and only one spiritual man who is governed by divine Mind. There is no mortal mind in Church, because God is the only Mind.  This universal Mind unfolds all healing action in Church.  

 

Church is divine Mind in action.  Any so-called human mind yields to the truth of one Mind's healing Church.  Human thought is incapable of demonstrating Church as an institution (Science and Health, p. 583:14), no matter how sophisticated it may claim to be. (Science and Health, p. 544:14 -17)

 

If our experience of church seems not to be progressing, we can begin by spiritualizing our concept of God’s healing Church, and improving thought until we see it as it really is – as God sees it, as He created, constitutes, and governs it – all-spiritual, all-supplied, all-harmonious, all-healing.

 

All of our branch churches and societies are benefited by our prayers: affirming and living the truth that is - God's healing Church - governed by the one, divine Mind, and aiding the fulfillment on earth of the "Church Universal and Triumphant." (Manual of the Mother Church, p. 19:1)

 

We can not underestimate the contribution each of us is making to “healing and saving the world from sin and death.” (ibid.)
